Wolfenstein 3-D was created in 1992 by Id Software. It was a major breakthrough in the computer gaming industry. Since then, technology has increased exponentially, but there is still an old-school charm to shooters like Wolfenstein that people love. For the first time, you got to destroy Nazis and even Hitler in full 3D. Today, Wolfenstein 3D is kept alive through add-ons, mods, and ports of the game to modern platforms. You can download the shareware version of this game at the bottom of this section.

It's World War II, and you are B.J. Blazcowicz---the allies' bad boy of espionage, a terminal action seeker built for abuse with an attitude to match. You were on a mission to capture the secret plans for Operation Eisenfaust. There is just one small problem: you've been captured by the Nazis, tortured, and imprisoned beneath the Castle Wolfenstein where you await execution. Bummer. Now you must do anything to escape from the belly of a Nazi Dungeon, or die trying.

This is the shareware version 1.4 of Wolfenstein 3-D. I do not support the shareware version of Wolfenstein 3-D, I only support the full version, but you can download this to get a feel for Wolfenstein before you go out an buy the full version. Click on the above box image to begin the download!  Note: This is the original DOS version of the game so if using Windows Vista or later or a non-Microsoft OS, you will need to use DOSBox to play it.  You can get it here.

Where can I get the full version?

Thanks to the resurgence of retro gaming, finding the full version of Wolfenstein 3D is much easier than it once was.  It is currently available for only $4.99 on Steam.

Wolf4SDL: Click here to download a Wolf4SDL EXE to run Wolfenstein 3D natively on all Windows operating systems.  You no longer have any need for complicated emulators like DOSBox! Simply drop the EXE and the included DLL files into your Wolf3D directory!

Spear of Destiny, although came after the original Wolfenstein 3-D, was actually a prequel to the original game. Id software assumed that since it's previous game, Wolfenstein 3-D did so well, then why not create an even better sequel. Spear of Destiny was the result. It is like Wolfenstein 3-D, but has more features and more extensive mapping than the original game.

Set in the early stages of World War II, you, B.J. Blazcowicz, have to retrieve the Spear of Destiny from Hitler's possession. According to legend, any army who had the Spear of Destiny could not be defeated. Now B.J. must go and retrieve the Spear of Destiny from the depths of Castle Nuremburg, or die trying.

This is the demo version of Spear of Destiny! It only contains the first two levels. I do not support the demo version of Spear of Destiny, but you can get a feel for this sequel to Wolfenstein 3-D before you go out an buy the full version. Click on the above box image to begin the download! Like Wolfenstein 3D, this is the original DOS version of the demo, so you will need DosBOX to run it on Windows Vista or later or anything non-Microsoft.

Where can I find Spear of Destiny?

Spear of Destiny used to be difficult to come by but thanks to Steam, it can easily be purchased online.  Get it here

SOD4SDL: Click here to download a SOD4SDL EXE to run Spear of Destiny natively on all Windows operating systems.  You no longer have any need for complicated emulators like DOSBox! Simply drop the EXE and the included DLL files into your SOD directory!

When we talk about B.J, the above image is who we have in mind. William Joseph Blazcowicz was born August 15, 1911, to Polish immigrants, Blazcowicz was a top spy for the Allied Forces, receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor and other accolades for heroism. He completed countless missions during his outstanding career. "B.J.", (as he was called by his friends) married after World War II, at age 40, to Julia Marie Peterson. Their son, Arthur Kenneth Blazcowicz, became a television talk show personality in Milwaukee. For show biz purposes, Arthur changed his last name to Blaze. Arthur later married Susan Elizabeth McMicheals. They had one son, which they named after Arthur's father, William Joseph Blazcowicz II, or as he signs his grade school homework, B. Blaze...

You will face a variety of enemies and guard types in Wolfenstein 3-D and Spear of Destiny. Here they are and what you can expect when facing them.

Brown Guard: Guards are the grist for the Nazi mill, but can be an effective force if fighting in groups. They were no body armor and can be brought down in a single shot. Carrying only a pistol, their firepower isn't exactly menacing. Guards are slow to react and must stop and take aim before shooting, making them vulnerable to a machine gun attack.

SS Guard: The SS are well trained and can rarely be surprised. Most will bark a warning when they become aware of your presence. This can make for an easy head count. However, some are trained to be silent. Wearing bulletproof vests and carrying a machine gun, the SS are difficult to bring down and pack a heavy punch. If an SS shoots you at close range, the encounter will be very brief because you'll be toast.

Officer: Officers are usually silent until they confront you face to face. They can rarely be surprised, and are fast, intelligent, fighters. Officers will move from left to right as they fire making them difficult to hit as well as draining you of ammunition. An officer's weapon of choice is a pistol. They wear light vests and can take about half the damage of an SS guard. Don't underestimate their abilities. In close quarters combat, these guys will make life miserable and short.

Mutant: Mutants don't make a sound until they shoot, greeting you only with the crack on gunfire. They are extremely aggressive and will continue to attack until dead. Mutants are equipped with chest guns and cleavers. They wear no armor, but can take almost as much damage as an SS guard.

Dog: Once on attack, these German shepherds will move directly toward their prey. A single bullet will bring down a killer dog. However, they are trained to quickly dodge during an attack, making them difficult to shoot.
